Veneers

Hand-layered porcelain, and a frank conversation about whether you need it.

Minimal-preparation veneers made by the ceramist who works in this building. If bonding or alignment would get you the same result, we will recommend that instead.

Minimal preparation

Most of our cases remove between 0.3 and 0.5mm of enamel — less than the thickness of a fingernail. Some remove none at all. Aggressive preparation makes the ceramist's job easier and your tooth's future worse, and we are not willing to make that trade.

Made here

Our ceramist works on site, which means shade matching happens with you in the room and adjustments come back in days rather than weeks. It is the single biggest reason our veneers do not look like veneers.

What they will not fix

Veneers do not correct a bite, they do not stop grinding, and they do not fix gum recession. Cases with untreated grinding get a night guard first, or the porcelain will fracture. We would rather delay you six weeks than replace your front teeth in two years.

What she came in for

She arrived with photographs of someone else's teeth and a quote from another practice for ten veneers. The examination found the real problem two steps earlier: nocturnal grinding that had shortened the upper edges and would have destroyed porcelain within three years.

What we did first

A night guard, and six weeks of nothing. The joint symptoms she had not mentioned settled, and we had a stable bite to design against. Only then did we scan.

The design

Six teeth, not ten — her smile ends at the second premolars, and treating teeth nobody sees is how a case starts looking like a case. The trial smile came back twice; she wanted the central edges a millimetre shorter than our first proposal and she was right.

The ones people actually ask.

How many teeth do I need?
Between four and ten, depending on how wide your smile is. We design to where your smile actually ends, which is usually further back than people expect.
Do they stain?
Porcelain does not. The bonded margins can, very slightly, over many years.
What happens in twenty years?
Expect to replace them. That is the honest lifespan, and it is why we keep the preparation minimal — so replacement is possible.
